Recognition by the European Commission - Press Release

The first R&D project of the European Community " Laserapatite "
from Erlangen and Franconia in 1995 has been awarded by the
European Commission as one of the successful R&D projects in the
year 2005. By the title " Longer lasting medical implants " ,
so-called long life implants, you can find the EC R&D project
" Laserapatite " among the successful R&D projects, being found

Long term successful projects are being honoured from various
frame programs, which can be found under different headings.
The project " Laserapatite " has been coordinated to nano-
technologies and nanosciences, knowledge-based multifunctional
materials, new production processes and devices. Further European
R&D projects are being mentioned, as well as the participation
in a Spanish project and a Bavarian project FORBIOMAT II.
The publication is not restricted to results in research, but is
showing the value of IPR, patents and trademarks, as well as
international awards in Switzerland and California, USA,
refering to commercial and social impacts.
For the SME Erothitan it is a recognition of 10 years of partici-
pation in European Research Projects, which is leading to a
optimal exploitation of the technologies and medical devices.

For an Erlangen native with an experience of 34 years in the
so-called " Medical Valley of Erlangen ", this recognition is
very enjoyable. The Medical Valley is presenting itself with
an European flair directed to international outlook.
In a few weeks the first scientific paper will be published in
the Journal of Biomedical Materials Research " A " by the Society
of Biomaterials, USA together with Universidad de Vigo,
Galicia, Spain, and Centro de Investigaciòn y Desarrollo
(Cidasal) , Santa Perpetua de Mogoda, Spain, with the title
" Biological Stability and Osteoconductivity in Rabbit Tibia
of Pulsed Laser Deposited Hydroxylapatite Coatings ".
